JACQUELINE SOCASTRO, LCSW-R, BCD
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience helping people with various problems from all types of backgrounds. As an interactive and solution focused therapist, my therapeutic approach is to provide clients with support and practical feedback to help them effectively address the personal challenges in their lives.
My work is guided by my belief that everyone has the potential to be healthy and happy. I am committed to helping others recognize, develop, and use their strengths to the fullest potential and attain the personal growth that they desire. Therefore, I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques that are tailored to the needs of each client.
I began working as a therapist while a graduate student at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and I have worked for a variety of agencies in New York City. I have provided long-term & short-term counseling in English and Spanish to people who have experienced depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, work/career issues, chronic illnesses, and relationship problems. I have provided counseling in a variety of settings, including a community mental health clinic and a mobile medical unit program.
Additionally, I was the Director of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Care Helpline at CancerCare. This role gave me the opportunity to work on a national level with breast cancer clients and their loved ones as they coped with the psychological, social, and practical aspects of breast cancer.
I was an EAP consultant at Employee Assistance Program (EAP) company in New York City where I provided assessments, crisis intervention, and short-term counseling to voluntary and mandated employees of various Fortune 100 companies, privately held businesses, and organizations and their family members. During my tenure there, I helped employees and their families with issues that interfered with the satisfaction in their professional and personal lives.
I am passionate about expanding my skills as a therapist and I am committed to life-long learning. I regularly attend trainings to stay up to date on research and use evidence-based techniques in my practice. I have attended the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy for additional training in treating depression and anxiety. Most recently, I became certified in Trial-Based Cognitive therapy.
I am licensed to practice psychotherapy in New York State, a member of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, and am a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work by the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work.
